2017 Highlights + 2018 Goals

This year started a bit rough, with a layoff, followed by nonstop hustling for the next gig. After I got my next gig, I experienced peace and understood what it meant to slow down.


 2017 Highlights

  • Attended SXSW 2017 and created a successful career campaign
  • Watched inspirational talks at Awwwards 2017 and met like-minded designers
  • Attained freelance gigs in fintech, VR, and edutech
  • Won an entertainment tech hackathon
  • Created clickable prototypes using HTML/CSS at AI, career-focused, and eCommerce hackathons
  • Created Swift prototype for a food swapper app (took on the dev role, while a dev took the designer role)
  • Stomped grapes at an Italian festival
  • Watched globs of hot lava flowing in Hawaii
  • Adventured domestically with my partner
  • Started to read again, and finished Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Brave New World, Lord of the Flies, and Hooked
  • New city, new job

What's coming up in 2018?

  • Become a speaker at a meetup and/or conference

  • Make an impact at work
  • Meet up with friends/new contacts 2-4x a month
  • Finish punny book and illustrations
  • Publish book

Friday, July 25, 2008 Bro went to class with me today! (He drove me to class, whilst I rested my tired eyes.) I was so sleep-deprived that each time I closed my eyes for 5 seconds, I would enter instantly into the dream phase known as REM. The first dream image I remember is that of a tropical paradise. The only thing I could see was a sliver of sunset, water on the horizon, but I was situated in some type of underground cave. The other dream image I remember is someone wearing red and black handing me a drink (in a reddish tinted room). I was going to reach for the cup, but I woke up after that. I was sooo utterly proud of him! He actually answered a few questions and impressed my professor. (This is, of course, attributed to ABL :D.) Jury Duty

I had an interesting experience, as you could infer from the title. Weeks ago, I received a letter to fulfill my civic service, so I postponed it to today, when I could actually serve my duty. I had no idea where the court was, in relation to the library nearby, but after circling around the block twice, I found some parking near the library and walked to the courthouse. The security guard x-rayed my belongings and directed me to the jury room. Inside, I was amused to find around 40 people seated with books or magazines in their hands. Perhaps others were looking around, confused at their reasons for being there, whilst a few individuals conversed. The room was medium-sized, perhaps the size of a classroom fitting 50 or so people. I also have to mention that about 1 out of 8 people dressed up in professional clothing (I suppose most did not care - yes, I was one of them). My Eleven Months - Travel Summary

Sadly, a combination of laziness and Great Firewall blockage from China diminished my chances of writing in blogger for the longest time. However, the abundance of digital and tangible reminders of my journey (ticket stubs, brochures, Webct posts, Microsoft Word documents, Facebook messages, chat transcripts, and pictures/videos - all 10+ DVDs of them), when pieced together like a puzzle, convey the extent of fun, hard work, and adventure within Hangzhou and other regions of China.
